OSHA Sustainable Workforce Alliance (Formerly the Georgia Youth Alliance)
In November 2006, the Georgia Youth Alliance was established with partners including the Georgia Area Offices of OSHA, the Georgia Local Section AIHA, the Georgia Chapter ASSE, the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia (CEFGA), the Georgia Department of Education and Georgia Tech Research Institute’s Occupational Safety and Health Division formed an alliance to provide career/technical education teachers and students guidance and access to training resources that will help protect their health and safety, particularly in reducing and preventing youth workers’ exposure to construction and general industry hazards. Our Chapter renewed it’s commitment in 2011 and again in 2014.
In November 2015, the OSHA Sustainable Workforce Alliance was established and our chapter signed a commitment to be a partner. This alliance replaces the former Georgia Youth Alliance.
The OSHA Sustainable Workforce Alliance is committed to providing members and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect the health and safety of youth workers and educators in career/technical education programs throughout Georgia. Through OSHA Sustainable Workforce Alliance members and others will continue to address the exposure of youth workers to prevalent hazards in the construction and general industries and provide them with an understand the rights of workers and the responsibilities of employers under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act).
The goals of the Alliance include: working together to provide expertise in developing training and education programs; delivering safety and health training courses; speaking and exhibiting at career and/or technical education events, and sharing best practices.
A key activity that our chapter provides volunteers for is the annual CEFGA CareerExpo & SkillsUSA State Championship both taking place each March in Atlanta.
Representatives from each Alliance member organization meet regularly to pursue the organization’s goals. Anyone who would like to participate in the Alliance as a representative of the Georgia Chapter of ASSE can contact Stacey Kruse (stacey.kruse@gm.com)for meeting times and information.
