Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Advanced expertise and knowledge in the administration of insurance coverage and claims processing Knowledge of State of Georgia laws regulating insurance and liability

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education and/or or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience

 

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Five (5) years related work experience

 

MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW AND/OR INSTITUTION:          

  • Georgia Property and Casualty Adjuster License
  • Current, valid and unrestricted Georgia driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in higher education

Job Purpose:

Responsible for ethically, professionally and analytically developing, implementing and assessing risk management and insurance safety and loss programs.  Provides research analysis and assessment of newly developed or expanded programs and supplies recommendations to management concerning liability issues.  Investigates, analyzes and negotiates property and casualty claims on behalf of the University and its affiliates.  Develops, coordinates and provides employee training in safety and loss prevention.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provides critical review of new incidents for potential property, casualty and liability claims
  2. Investigates all potential claims to determine appropriate course of action and collaboration
  3.  Creates formal claims management plan for each claim and ensures actions are completed appropriately
  4. Provides claims management services for assigned departments and affiliated entities for claims not covered by DOAS
  5. Coordinate investigations with appropriate departments and insurance adjuster and visits claim site(s) to gather initial facts to determine the best solution to remedy the damage or loss
  6. Serves as the liaison to other administrative units, insurance adjusters and involved third parties to obtain evidence and documentation for claim submission
  7. Develops, gathers, reviews, verifies and maintains data for timely and accurate reporting of losses, claims, insurance premiums, and other insurance and risk related costs
  8. Investigates and resolves all claim files and Develops and maintains accurate claim records in the electronic risk management information system (RMIS)
  9. Assists with system development, management, conversion, data entry, system maintenance and new software evaluation
  10. Works with departments to ensure compliance with all governing regulations, policies and procedures
  11. Analyzes Motor Vehicle Reports and determines employee qualifications to operate a vehicle under governing regulations, policies and procedures
  12. Analyzes reports from MVR database against campus-wide SAS reports for compliance with governing regulations, policies and procedures and coordinates action plans for compliance
  13. Manage Department of Driver Services Certification and compliance submissions
  14. Administers Accident Review Panel campus wide, report results and trends and ensures appropriate corrective actions are taken
  15. Coordinates, schedules and provides resources and training for the University on safety and risk topics
  16. Certified instructor for the licensed National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course
  17. Serves as the backup and resource in the absence of leadership

Kennesaw State University – Senior Hazardous Materials Specialist

  • Able to coordinate the collection and transportation of hazardous waste generated on both campuses
  • Knowledge in the use of appropriate safety and protective equipment including medical clearance for respirator use
  • Proficiency in waste management software and safety data sheet management software (or willingness to learn)

Job Purpose:

Provides professional expertise in the operation of waste programs (hazardous/nonhazardous chemical, universal and regulated medical wastes) for the Kennesaw and Marietta campuses. Inspects waste materials to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry best practices and University’s hazardous waste management procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Performs waste disposal operations including identification, classification and segregation of recyclable materials, nonhazardous waste, hazardous waste, and regulated medical waste
  2. Prepares non-hazardous and hazardous waste manifests, inventories, and cost tracking duties
  3. Facilitates waste shipments to approved suppliers
  4. Conducts inspections as required (satellite accumulation/180 day storage area)
  5. Participates in hazardous waste emergency response initiatives
  6. Assists in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) training and general safety initiatives
  7. Attends professional development courses/conferences

  • Current, valid, and unrestricted Georgia driver’s license
  • Able to obtain a chemical or lab safety certification (e.g. – CHMM, CCHO, CSP, etc.) within one (1) year of employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Certified Chemical Hygiene Officer (CCHO), or a comparable certification

Job Purpose:

Works collaboratively with staff, faculty, and safety committees to support the laboratory safety programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supports leadership with various elements of the laboratory safety programs
  2. Assists with inspections of academic and research laboratories to identify items of non-compliance related to use, handling, and the disposal of chemicals, biohazards, and other laboratory related hazards
  3. Approves chemical and biological materials for purchase
  4. Maintains chemical inventory and safety data sheets (SDSs) using department database
  5. Responds to chemical and biohazard spills and implement decontamination procedures
  6. Investigates accidents involving exposures or injuries that occur in the lab and/or are associated with chemicals and/or biological materials
