Required Minimum Education:  Bachelor’s degree

Req. Min. Years Related Exp.:Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of universal and hazardous waste rules and regulations
  • Able to identify wastes as hazardous
  • Extensive knowledge of storing wastes in a properly labeled and closed container
  • Able to coordinate the collection and transportation of hazardous waste generated on both campuses
  • Knowledge in the use of appropriate safety and protective equipment including medical clearance for respirator use
  • Proficiency in waste management software and safety data sheet management software (or willingness to learn)
  • Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
  • Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e. Microsoft Office suite)
  • Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
  • Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette


Bachelor’s from an accredited institution of higher education in Occupational Health and Safety, Life Sciences, Environmental Health Science, Physical Science, Chemistry or a related field



Five (5) years related work experience



  • Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager or Professional (CHMM/CHMP)
  • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act training (RCRA)
  • Hazardous Materials Transportation training (DOT)
  • Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response training (HAZWOPER)

Job Purpose:

Provides professional expertise in the operation of waste programs (hazardous/nonhazardous chemical, universal and regulated medical wastes) for the Kennesaw and Marietta campuses. Inspects waste materials to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry best practices and University’s hazardous waste management procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Performs waste disposal operations including identification, classification and segregation of recyclable materials, nonhazardous waste, hazardous waste, and regulated medical waste
  2. Prepares non-hazardous and hazardous waste manifests, inventories, and cost tracking duties
  3. Facilitates waste shipments to approved suppliers
  4. Conducts inspections as required (satellite accumulation/180 day storage area)
  5. Participates in hazardous waste emergency response initiatives
  6. Assists in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) training and general safety initiatives
  7. Attends professional development courses/conferences
